12:00 PM - 1:15 PM

Bloomberg School of Public Health

With John W. Ayers, PhD and Mark Dredze, PhD. The future of big data is more promising in an area where traditional surveillance is largely incomplete: behavioral medicine, a multidisciplinary field focused on health behaviors and mental health. To demonstrate this promise the speakers will describe their pioneering work, including several ongoing collaborations with the Institute for Global Tobacco Control such as the first evaluation of World No Tobacco Day, identifying recurring rhythms in smoking cessation contemplation and the development of Tobacco Watcher, an automated media monitoring platform.
